Coastal Blackbutt

Coastal Blackbutt owes its name to the tree's appearance after bushfires, when the base of the trunk - or butt - is charred and blackened. Blackbutt is a fast-growing, versatile hardwood species with colour ranging from golden yellow to pale brown, and occasionally including pinkish overtones. The timber has an even texture and generally straight grain, making it very well suited for interior use applications. As it's name suggests, Blackbutt is fire resistant, and is one of seven hardwood timber species accepted by the Building Commission in Victoria for home construction in bushfire areas.
